Love...it sucks
Love is such a powerful thing. It can bring you up, but it can also bring you down really hard. Reading "What We Talk about When We Talk about Love" illustrates how people can get confused on the definition of love. Not one person in this story understood it. Some people, like Terri, were in abusive relationships. She really seemed to love the man, but he only beat her up. She was so dependent on him, because she "loved" him so much that it was hard for her to let go. Terri and Mel have a rocky marriage after a while. Their love for each other has failed. They love Nick and Laura's marriage though because they seem to be in love, but really, they are stuck in that newlywed infatuation stage. They have not been though hell yet in their marriage to see how much they truly love each other. It is wrong for Terri to be jealous of their marriage if they have not been together for that long. Many people now-a-days are so stuck in the infatuation stage that they think they are so in love and everything is going to be just peachy. The word love is just thrown around know and no one seems to know what it means anymore. Love is supposed to withstand the test of time and not fail. You can love someone with all your heart, but guess what, even if they love you, they can hurt you on so many levels. A person will stay with that person too, thinking, “Oh, it’s ok, he does this because he loves me”. They are living a lie. That is not love. Just the word love can tie you down to something bad. It’s very rare to find true love and actual marriages that last.

I agree with what you said about the word love being thrown around these days. I have many friends still in highschool, and sometimes I want to just slap some since into some of them. In reality though, it's not just young people that throw around the word love. It makes me wonder if they really know what love is, or if they are actually deceived in their thinking. Anyway, it really devalues the word, when we just toss it around and don't actually mean it when we say it.
